Mold Prevention Tips
- Keep moisture below 55% - most molds flourish above
this humidity level
- Since basements are more susceptible to mold
growth—use a low temperature dehumidifier in the
basement
- Correct any moisture problems immediately and ensure
that prior moisture problems have been dried thoroughly
- Keep your home properly ventilated especially
bathrooms and kitchens
- Properly vent appliances that produce moisture such
as stoves and clothes dryers.
- Routinely check for water leaks, condensation and
correct any intrusions immediately
- Cover cold surfaces, such as cold water pipes in a
basement, with insulation
- Mold can begin to grow on surfaces with 24-48 hours
on water damaged areas and items. It is important to dry
water damaged areas and items as soon as possible
- You must completely fix the water or moisture
intrusion problem prior to mold remediation
- Clean refrigerator and freezer drip pans regularly
- Prevent condensation from collecting on windows and
walls
